What Is Isometric Projection?
Isometric projection is a way to represent three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface. It shows width, height, and depth together, helping viewers understand the shape of an object or the arrangement of a scene. Unlike perspective drawing, it keeps parallel edges parallel. Objects do not shrink with distance, making complex layouts easier to follow. In classical isometric projection, the three projected axes form equal angles of 120°, with the same scale along each axis. The two receding axes are usually drawn at 30° to the horizontal.
What Is 2:1 Isometric Projection?
Icograms Designer uses 2:1 isometric projection, also known as games isometric or 2.5D isometric graphics. Lines along the receding axes rise one unit for every two horizontal units, producing an angle of approximately 26.565°.
Technically, this is a dimetric projection. In illustration and game art, however, it is commonly called isometric. Icograms icons and grids follow this shared geometry, so separate elements fit together into a consistent scene.
